My Top 5 Summer Lipsticks
Updated: Oct 29, 2019
In honor of National Lipstick Day, I thought it would be fun for me to share my top five favorite lipsticks! I typically go for nude colors year-round, and especially reach for them in the summer to create more natural looks. The five I've chosen vary in terms of drugstore, non-drugstore, color, type, and finish.
Note: The lipsticks listed below are ranked by how often I've worn them :)
1. bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipstick- Slay ($19)
This is probably my most-worn lipstick out of everything I own! I'm basically obsessed with this lipstick. I'm on my second bottle, but it's about to be three :~) This liquid lipstick is non-drying, creamy, pigmented, and super light-weight making it so comfortable to wear day and night. I personally love the color Slay, which is a light, pink-y mauve. I'm not a huge fan of the applicator because it's large and doesn't really allow for precision, so make sure you use a lip liner with this first. The finish of the lipstick is matte, but because it's non-drying, it transfers a bit. I haven't found a liquid lipstick yet that's this comfortable without it transferring, so I've accepted the fact that you kinda have to pick one: completely transfer-proof and dealing with dryness/cracked lips, or moisturizing formulas that can budge. I generally re-apply every 4ish hours depending if I've eaten or not, but I would say that it is long-wearing. I also love the yummy, subtle cocoa scent!
2. Buxom Full-On Plumping Lip Cream- Dolly ($21.00)
I actually got this at TJ Maxx for $6, so be on the lookout there or at Marshall's before you buy this for full price! Buxom is one of my absolute favorite lip brands-- I swear I could use their lip products all day, every day! Their lip creams and glosses are probably the most comfortable I've ever worn. They're not sticky, give incredible shine, have a nice cocoa/minty scent, and plump the lips beautifully. I was nervous to use a lip-plumping product at first, but it's not uncomfortable in the slightest! There's a cooling sensation upon application and that's it. This product makes my lips look and feel so full and natural at the same time, I love it! I think a few of the shades in this collection are more opaque than they look in the packaging, so if you can, try to use testers in-store so you get the exact shade you want. The glossy finish of this lip cream is radiant and perfect for summer days!
Tip: This is a very versatile product! It can be used by itself or on top of another lipstick for added shine/plump :)
3. Tarte Tarteist Creamy Lip Matte Lip Paint- Namaste ($20.00)
I absolutely LOVE this nude pink shade! It stays in place for what seems like forever, and the pigment is so pretty! I love the color range of this line because they have a good selection of undertones for various skin colors. The applicator of the lipstick is curved so it's really easy to apply. However, I'm not a fan of how it dries out the lips, so I recommend hydrating your lips a LOT before locking this in. Without using lip balm beforehand, the formula gets really uncomfortable on my lips, so just beware. If you prep right, you should be fine though! No scent that I can notice.
4. L'Oréal Colour Riche Ultra Matte Nude Lipstick- All Out Pout ($9.99)
The hydration and matte finish of this product is so incredible. While it's not transfer-proof, the color lasts for hours! There's no stick, no crumbling, and no drying. With this lipstick on, your lips feel velvety smooth and look gorgeous throughout the day. This is definitely a lipstick I reach for when I know I'm gonna be out and about all day and won't have time to keep re-applying. I've received so many compliments while wearing this! Plus, the nude color range is amazing! There's a scent, but to me it just smells like makeup/lipstick. This line is so luxurious but won't run your bank dry. To me, this is the best matte lipstick on the market.
5. Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon Lipstick- Lead the Way ($9.49)
Ok I just bought this a few days ago & I'm so impressed! I had been trying to get my hands on it for a while now, but it was sold out everywhere I looked which isn't shocking to me now that I've used it. I've tried the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lip, and although I did love the long-wearing color, it was wayyyy too drying on my lips. I was so sad! This lip crayon is just like its predecessor, but better in my opinion because it's WITHOUT the stickiness and dryness. YAY Maybelline!! The formula of the crayon is lightweight and creamy, and my lips absolutely love it. It has an almost mousse type of feel and glides on the lips so smoothly. The satin matte finish is just gorgeous. While it didn't last the full 8 hours on my lips as it claims it will, it was there for a good 6 hours before I had to touch up in the middle of my lips. You don't need a lip liner with this beauty because the tip of the crayon can be used to line the outside of your lips while the sides are for filling in. Easy application, yummy cocoa smell, beautiful color, travel-friendly, and long-wearing? Yes please!
I hope you can try some of these & that you enjoy them as much as I do! I would so love to hear from you, so leave any comments and/or questions you have below & let me know what YOUR faves are!
